Emergency Operations Centre [City of Gosnells]

Project Brief

The project involved the construction of the state-of-the-art City of Gosnells Emergency Operations Centre facility in Beckenham. Partly funded by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), the centre houses the Gosnells State Emergency Service (SES) and the City of Gosnells Bush Fire Brigade, the facility provides a much-needed base for approximately 90 SES and fire-fighting volunteers. The Emergency Operations Centre includes equipment stores, training facilities, a fully functioning control room, warehousing and wash down facilities for 10 vehicles, and provides a base to enable the City to manage emergencies such as fire, flood, and search and rescue operations

Project Description

The project was completed using multiple structural materials with mixed fabric, including concrete tilt panel, masonry, steel portal and metal cladding. Block/brickwork construction, including retaining walls, was utilised throughout construction. Electrical, mechanical and hydraulic services were successfully implemented (both internally and externally) during construction., with road paving, kerbing and line markings implemented for vehicles. The works also included the installation of ducted air-conditioning and extraction vents, galvanised gates, and chain link fencing. With extensive civil works including the boring of water and sewer mains under the Kenwick Link, and earthworks, including clay removal and certified clean fill were also required under the scope of works. In addition to access control (fencing, hoarding, safety signage and dust suppression) during the construction phase, specific environmental controls (including dieback and acid sulphate control for personnel and vehicles) and allowance for the correct disposal of contaminated soil were imperative due to proximity to designated wetlands.
