Overview
Project Overview
The City of Rockingham engaged Shelford Constructions to build a new standalone toilet block that would need to match the existing surrounding heritage listed buildings. The new facility is a public toilet block containing two unisex disabled toilets and at one end of the building it is split into 4 small storage units divided by chain-link fencing for allocation to the patrons of the nearby buildings.

Key Features
In order to match the existing heritage buildings Shelford utilized Reverse brick veneer construction with Hardiflex cladding fixed to timber studs on external leaf. We also included Jarrah balustrade, jarrah veranda, jarrah weatherboard and full height tiling internally.
Construction Challenges
The main constraint on this project was the continued use of nearby buildings, this included a Visual Arts Centre and children’s day care centre that were operational during construction.
Another challenge was that due to nearby buildings being built so long ago, many redundant underground services were encountered and it made it more difficult to locate existing services.
