Key Features

Emergency Operations Infrastructure

The centre was purpose-built to support the operational requirements of both the State Emergency Services and Bush Fire Brigades.

Office and control room facilities provide dedicated spaces for personnel and operational coordination, while adjoining garaging accommodates emergency vehicles, appliances, plant and equipment.

Vehicle Washdown & Runoff Management

Specialist infrastructure was incorporated to manage the cleaning of emergency vehicles and equipment.

The vehicle washdown area includes an oil separator, while hardstand runoff is directed through catchment and drainage infrastructure designed to filter surface pollutants.

Durable Building Construction

The building incorporates a composite construction methodology using:

• Concrete tilt panels
• Masonry
• Structural steel framing
• Metal cladding

The combination provides a durable structure suited to the operational demands of an emergency services facility.

Site & External Works

The sloping site required brick and block retaining walls, while bitumen car parking with line marking provides dedicated parking for volunteers and facility users.

Construction Challenges

Extensive Ground Remediation

Existing ground conditions required substantial earthworks before construction could progress.

Clay material was removed from the site and replaced with certified clean fill, providing appropriate ground conditions for the development.

Environmentally Sensitive Location

The proximity of the site to the surrounding river system resulted in stringent environmental controls throughout construction.

Shelford coordinated with an on-site environmental engineer to manage the project's environmental requirements and reduce the risk of construction activities affecting the surrounding environment.

Dieback Management

Dieback controls were also required throughout construction.

Vehicle and personnel washdown procedures were implemented as part of the site's environmental management measures, requiring ongoing coordination of site access and construction activities.
