Overview
Project Overview
Shelford Constructions delivered the CHEP Pallet Facility for Hesperia at Roe Highway Logistics Park in Kenwick, creating a purpose-built industrial facility to support CHEP's large-scale pallet storage, repair, washing and distribution operations.
Occupying an approximately four-hectare site, the development incorporates a purpose-built main office and warehouse housing automated pallet repair and washing technology. Extensive external hardstand provides capacity for the storage of approximately 110,000 pallets, supporting the significant operational and logistics requirements of CHEP, a Brambles company and global supply chain solutions provider.
The scale and configuration of the facility were driven by the client's specialised operations, combining warehouse infrastructure, automated processing areas and extensive external storage within one integrated industrial development.
A defining architectural element is the distinctive "CHEP C" incorporated into the office façade. Constructed using steel framing and curved Ultrabond cladding, the feature reflects CHEP's corporate identity and creates a highly recognisable arrival point within the broader industrial facility.
Delivered during the COVID-19 period and through periods of unseasonal wet and windy weather, the project required detailed planning, close stakeholder collaboration and careful resequencing of works to maintain the construction programme.
The completed facility demonstrates Shelford Constructions' capability to deliver large-scale industrial and logistics facilities tailored to specialised operational requirements.

Key Features
Large-Scale Pallet Processing Facility
A defining feature of the development is the scale of CHEP's pallet washing and repair operations.
The purpose-built warehouse accommodates automated technology supporting the washing, repair and processing of pallets before their redistribution through CHEP's supply chain network.
This specialised operational requirement differentiates the development from a conventional industrial warehouse.
Extensive Hardstand & Storage Capacity
The four-hectare site incorporates extensive external hardstand capable of accommodating approximately 110,000 pallets.
The scale of the external storage area was fundamental to the facility's operation, providing the capacity required to support CHEP's pallet storage, processing and distribution activities.
Distinctive CHEP Façade
The main office incorporates a distinctive architectural interpretation of the CHEP "C" logo.
Steel framing was formed into the required profile and finished with Ultrabond cladding curved around the corners, integrating CHEP's corporate identity directly into the building architecture.
Construction Challenges
Programme Delivery During COVID-19
The project was constructed during the height of the COVID-19 period, creating potential programme and construction pressures.
Maintaining progress required close collaboration between Shelford, contractors, consultants and project stakeholders, with careful management of the construction programme as conditions evolved.
Weather Conditions
Unseasonal wet weather and periods of higher-than-expected winds created additional challenges during construction.
The project team responded through detailed planning and resequencing construction activities where required, helping minimise disruption to the overall programme.
Site Coordination
Given the scale of the development and its extensive external works, site coordination was particularly important.
Strong collaboration across the project team and contractors allowed potential issues to be identified and addressed systematically, supporting successful programme delivery despite the external challenges encountered during construction.
