OVERVIEW
This operations centre is the base for the local State Emergency Services and Bush Fire Brigades and incorporates offices and control room facilities as well as garaging for the appliances, plant and equipment of both organisations. Features include vehicle washdown with oil separator and hardstand runoff catchment to drainage pockets to filter surface pollutants.
Prominent features
The building structure is a composite of tilt panel, masonry, steel frame and metal cladding to the design of the architect. Brick / block retaining walls were required for the sloping site. Carparks around the building for the volunteers are bitumen with linemarking.
Project Challenges
The site required extensive earthworks for clay removal and replacement with certified clean fill. Onerous environmental conditions were imposed due to the proximity of the river system and dieback control with vehicle and personal wash down was implemented. Liaison was required with an onsite environmental engineer for control of environmental conditions.
