OVERVIEW
The project is a facility built at the City of Cockburn landfill site for the storage of hazardous wastes: acids, alkaline materials, flammable goods and the like.
Prominent features
The structure is concrete tilt panel walls which form cells for each waste type and a structural steel frame and metal roof. The front of each cell is closed by a chain-link gate and has through ventilation and comprehensive fire fighting capability. Each cell has the capacity to self-contain and capture spills etc.
External panels were cast with feature recesses and painted to add architectural interest.
Project Challenges
The building site is contained within an operating land fill, waste disposal facility and operations were to be minimally impacted.
